Multi-Stage Low-Cost Treatment of Dyes and Paints Wastewater for Reuse: A Comprehensive Approach

Research Project

Abstract

This project proposes a multi-stage treatment approach to effectively treat dyes and paints wastewater from industries, involving coagulation, adsorption, and filtration. The goal is to mitigate environmental pollution, conserve water resources, and promote sustainable industrial practices. The comprehensive treatment method offers a cost-effective solution that can be implemented across different industrial sectors facing similar wastewater challenges. Traditional treatment methods often fall short in removing the complex mixture of pollutants, including dyes and paints, leading to environmental and health risks. This project aims to address these challenges and enable the reuse of treated water in various industrial processes.

Awards

"    The project team presented a speech and a poster entitled ""Textile wastewater treatment with sugarcane bagasse pulp and its derivatives"" in the first international symposium for sustainable water solutions, held on 6-7 Sept. (4seasons hotel)–Alexandria, arranged by The center of excellence of water in collaboration with Alexandria University and won the best poster in the best poster competition held between Alexandria, Aswan, Ain Shams, Zagazig, and Beni Suef universities.
•    The project team presented the work entitled ""Textile wastewater treatment by using sugarcane bagasse pulp assessment and optimization by artificial intelligence"" on the ""Water and Climate Change"", held on the 5th of October 2022 in the Faculty of Eng.- Port said University, arranged by Port said University in collaboration with the Chinese Univ. and different water treatment companies and won the first place in the competition held between the different Egyptian Universities.
•    The project team had the privilege of attending the prestigious Cairo Water Week conference held from the 30th - 2nd November at the Nile Ritz Carlton Hotel, which focused on the theme “wastewater treatment using natural biochar Water at the heart of climate action”. Our project team presented two significant papers that garnered attention and recognition during the event. The first paper, titled “Removal of methylene blue from aqueous solutions by adsorption on physically prepared activated carbon from sugarcane bagasse pulp”, showcased our innovative approach to addressing textile wastewater treatment. The second paper, “commercial versus natural activated carbon fabricated sheets: applied to dye removal applications”.
•    The project won the best poster award (1st place) in these postgraduate research forum Nile University 1st February 2023 (Using an Adsorbent Novel Eco-Friendly Raw Material (Sugarcane Bagasse pulp) As Smart Productivity in Textile Water Treatment Process) see Fig.1.
•    Publish a paper ""Volatilization of Agricultural and Marine Waste for the Fabrication of Bio Adsorbent Sheets"" represents a noteworthy contribution to the scientific literature, highlighting a sustainable approach to waste management and environmental conservation. Its launch at the 2024 World Environmental and Water Resources Congress serves as a testament to its relevance and potential impact on the field see
